Yoshi's New Island, which seems to be getting more favorable buzz than some might have expected, is the big game this week, but some other interesting games are hitting the 3DS, too, with a sale or two as well. Bubble Pop World is a 3DS eShop game that brings AR gameplay to puzzle games and Cube Tactics is the rare 3DS eShop game with online multiplayer. On Wii U, the only new release is Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. So, um, it totally sucks Shovel Knight was delayed when there's so much hitting the Wii U right now.
After a consistent weeks of big retail releases, the Wii U and 3DS eShop has some new and old games to highlight this week. Blok Drop U is a cool little Wii U puzzle game that costs only $1.99. It's made by one guy and involves dropping a block so it lands safely. Two new games hit the 3DS eShop, and each Virtual Console gets one game each. No, neither of them are Super Mario Bros. 3. We don't know why that's not out in North America yet either.
It is another slow week here on the Nintendo eShops. On 3DS, the latest (and last?) Professor Layton game is coming to North America on Friday while Goodbye Galaxy Games' Tappingo hits the download store today. My Farm is the lone original Wii U title, while the NES game Renegade comes to both Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console. Don't worry, gang, we should have a steady stream of cool indie games starting really soon on Wii U.
December seems to be the time of giving for Sega, as they are debuting two more Sega 3D Classics this week that call to mind their shooting and time-traveling dolphin past. In addition, Two Tribes brings their third classic game to Wii U. This time it’s RUSH, which originally came out on WiiWare. Double Dragon for the NES hits both Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console with no cross-buy discount in sight, and TREVA Entertainment releases yet another horse simulation alongside a few other 3DS eShop titles. It’s just another regular week here at Nintendo Download HQ.
Let’s get the important stuff out of the way now. A new Mario game and a new Zelda game are coming out on Wii U and 3DS respectively. You know what to do. Buy them. Now that that is out of the way, we’ve got a solid week of downloads, featuring several Wii U and 3DS download titles, two Jaleco-made Virtual Console games, a Mega Man sale, and even a DSiWare game. But really, you’re just going to play Zelda and Mario, aren’t you? You should be.
We’re getting to that time of the year when retail games lead the charge, but don’t worry, most of them are downloadable day one! Over the next few days, the next entries in the Mario & Sonic Olympics, Adventure Time, and Zumba Fitness series are all hitting retail and the eShop. Today is the debut of XSEED’s Senran Kagura Burst, which is best known for being that sidescrolling beat-’em-up with overly chesty women. On Virtual Console, the Koei sea simulation Uncharted Waters hits Wii U while River City Ransom comes to 3DS.
Wii Sports Club is the forefront of this week’s Nintendo downloads, but some other fun and interesting games are just below the surface. Also on Wii U is Toki Tori, a cheap version of the Game Boy Color classic that begot Toki Tori 2 on Wii U. On 3DS, Kid Icarus: Uprising is now available on the eShop. Virtual Console is bolstered by Wario’s Woods, both on Wii U and 3DS. Sadly, you have to pay $5 each if you want them on each system.
Atlus and XSEED rule this week of downloads with a pair of dueling RPGs debuting next week at retail and on the 3DS eShop. New entries in the Etrian Odyssey and Rune Factory series are mighty enticing, though likely terrifying since they come out on the same day, mere weeks before Pokémon X and Y and Hometown Story, the next game from the creator of Harvest Moon. Aside from that pair, check out a whole bunch of 3DS eShop games that involve horse riding, table tennis, and dragons. I hope you Wii U fans are enjoying the bounty of games from past weeks, because all you have got this week is Donkey Kong 3, which isn’t the most exiciting Virtual Console release.
The Virtual Console is all the rage in this week’s Nintendo Downloads, with a triple Super Nintendo dose of Street Fighter II hitting the Wii U Virtual Console and the NES classic Ninja Gaiden II launching on 3DS Virtual Console. A bunch of sales continue to go on, with a few new ones entering the fray, including a 30% off all Ubisoft games for the 3DS eShop one. And if you were waiting for the eShop release of the 999 sequel, Virtue’s Last Reward, you can now dive into that dark visual novel for a reduced price.
If you’ve been throwing carrots at walls for weeks now, you can finally stop and get ready to play Pikmin 3 to get out your aggression. And while you’re waiting for Pikmin 3 to come out at midnight on August 4, you can check out the other fun titles from this week’s download lineup, including Ubisoft and Pwnee Studios’ Cloudberry Kingdom. The Virtual Console is even getting some love with Kirby’s Dream Land 2 on 3DS and Harvest Moon (the Super Nintendo version) on Wii U.
.... Seriously, though, you’re getting Pikmin, right?
