Hugh Jackman is reportedly in talks to appear as Wolverine in the upcoming prequel-sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past for what would be (after next summer's The Wolverine,) his sixth time in the X-Men film franchise. (The seventh if you count his cameo in X-Men: First Class.)
What will this mean for Days of Future Past?
Last year, X-Men: First Class relaunched the franchise with an interestingly low-key strategy without the benefit of big name stars gracing their marquee. -- That, however has changed since the rise in stock of star, Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), whose commitment to The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, actually prompted X-Men to delay filming this past summer.
Also, when factoring the continuing rise of Michael Fassbender, the returning Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, and now, the biggest one in the bunch, Hugh Jackman, X-Men: Days of Future Past could end up being loaded with big-time bankable names. -- Almost the polar opposite of its predecessor.
The film was already shaping up to be a surreal meeting of the two X-Men film franchises, but with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, it all but guarantees this to be an Avengers-like mega-movie event.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will break the time barrier to theaters on July 18, 2014.
